BEFORE – Front Garden Northern Beaches Sydney

This is what we started with. The clients wanted an interesting front entryway to their new house renovation. They hated the current bland landscape design of scruffy turf. The design brief was to create a Japanese Style Garden for the front of the house entryway including a new driveway and recycled brick pathways.

AFTER

We designed a Japanese Landscape design using oriental garden design principles. The design included a Water Feature including a small water bowl and a dry pebble creek which passed under a stone bridge. This trickling water gives a lovely effect to the front of the house. The pathway is made up of recycled  bricks.

The dry creek flows down the natural slope of the yard to a small pond at the front corner of the garden. There is a small seating area and some interesting recycled sleeper bench seats incorporated into the garden, allow the family to sit around and have a meal within their quiet, peaceful new garden.

BEFORE – Front Garden Northern Beaches Sydney

This is what we started with. The clients wanted an interesting front entryway to their new house. They hated the current bland landscape design of stepping stones, viburnum hedge and buxus. The design brief was also to soften the front driveway and break up the angular nature of the yard and create an interesting space for the kids to play in, but still look appealing and add to the street impact of the house.

AFTER

We designed a Modern Australian Native Garden using Japanese design principles using asymmetrical design concepts. The design included a Water Feature including a small Waterfall and a flowing creek which passed under the pathway. This trickling water gives a lovely effect to the front of the house. The pathway is made up of recycled railway sleepers and crushed granite.

We incorporated Australian Natives in the garden, but retained the viburnum hedge as a backdrop to the contrasting foliage of the natives such as westringia, baeckea, kangaroo paw, grass tree, flowering gum and native grasses.

The creek flows down the natural slope of the yard to a small pond at the front corner of the garden. This clients kids are often playing with this pond and creek and love interacting with the space. There is a small seating area and some interesting recycled sleeper bench seats incorporated into the garden, allow the family to sit around and have a meal within their quiet, peaceful new garden.

We designed an elegant Small courtyard garden in a small garden in inner west Sydney. The garden design opens up the small space and adds a variety of features to the small space to make maximum use of the small garden design.

Sandstone paving adds loads to charm to this small inner city terrace garden, using recycled bricks for the low retaining wall also adds to the charming atmosphere of this garden. A small seating area was added using decking under a small pergola. A perfect spot to sit and enjoy a coffee within a hidden inner city tranquil garden space.

A wide variety of flowering plants were used including tropical rhododendrons, azaleas, liriopes and pieris. This garden has a certain charm to it. An ageless quality that perfectly matches the old terrace house. Low voltage lighting uplights and lights in the wall add to the gardens usability.

Courtyard Garden Design Landscape Garden Inner West Sydney Landscaping

BEFORE – Courtyard Back Garden Inner West Sydney

The previous garden was highly impractical and useless. There was a large variation in heights from the garden to the back of the house. We needed to drop this level and create a functional garden space that felt like an extension of the inside of the house. We extensively excavated the soil and stone in this yard to drop the level down, then create a multilevel decking area. Screening at the back of the property was also needed.

AFTER

We designed a lush tropical garden design incorporating layers of tropical plants of differing foliage colours and textures. The main star of this garden however is the large deck area and built in seating. This decking area transformed not only the garden, but also the outlook from inside the house.

Seating was also added to the garden, and a wide array of lush plantings, creating a hidden inner city tranquil garden space.

The main tropical plants used include bangalow palms, lilly pillies, gardenias, agaves, flaxes and cordylines along with ajuga, acorus and liriope groundcovers. Uplights were also installed around the garden creating a beautiful courtyard landscape garden to be enjoyed both day and night.

Landscaping BEFORE – Tropical Back Garden Northern Beaches Sydney

The previous garden was bland, uninspired and unappealing. The design concept was to create a beautiful, practical garden that makes you want to be in it. Screening at the back of the property was also needed.

AFTER

We designed a lush tropical garden design incorporating layers of tropical plants of differing foliage colours and textures. A pergola was built at the rear of the yard to add a focal point, lure people into the garden area and help screen the neighbouring house.

Seating was also added to the garden, along with a gentle water feature/creek and a sand pit for the young children. The majority of the lawn area was kept as this yard was relatively small and with 2 small kids lawn was important.

The main tropical plants used include kentia and bangalow palms, painted bamboo, gardenias, flaxes and cordylines along with ajuga, acorus and liriope groundcovers. Uplights were also installed around the garden creating a beautiful landscape garden to be enjoyed both during the day and night.

DURING – Back Garden Northern Beaches Sydney

These photos are during construction of the pond. Before this big hole, this corner of the backyard was simply a lawn area. The owners of the property wanted a water feature that looks amazing from the back deck and inside the house, but was also large enough to be used as a natural plunge pool for the kids. The owners also wanted some stone seating and spotted gum decking.

AFTER

We designed a large pond and waterfall that works well within the overall backyard landscape, despite the size of the water feature the proportions work within this large backyard. We used large natural sandstone boulders for the waterfall and incorporated small retaining walls that double as seating. The surrounding garden is planted with a variety of hardy attractive plants with various foliage forms and colours.

The pond is run by a large pump including a bio filtration system and UV lighting to ensure clean water.

Large recycled sleepers and panes of thick glass were used to build the fence around this pond, ensuring the area is safe and secure while still looking attractive. Uplights were also installed within the deck around the pond, creating a beautiful garden feature to be enjoyed both during the day and night.
